Grandfather's Pocket Watch
This is an etched picture of my grandfathers pocket watch. The simple idea of looking at a pocket watch brings my grandfathers to mind. He is a very special person for me and his memory lives in my heart. Although he is no longer with me, I know he is present in the stars that look down on me every night.
Medium: Etched glass image of pocket watch.Laser cutout images of stars on very thin plywood.

Artist Statement
"Layers Of Memory"
Memories are something every individual has. We revisit them in our storytelling to others. We capture them with photographs or keepsakes. Sometimes we forget them, until something in the environment reminds us. We live in a material world, where material things determine who we are, but these material things can also evoke memories and spiritual connections. An image, a place, an object, can take us back to those days that lives in our hearts forever. All these memories are the "layers of life" that form us as individuals and makes us who we are.
This exhibitions, "Layers of life" is based on the observations of my life and how different objects, places and natural surroundings remind me of different times in my life. Life is full of layers, life is full of memories, life is a journey. The wonderful thing is that while you are on the journey, sometimes you are unaware of where the path is leading you. It is only when you look back and you look close into those layers and moments in time, that you see where you've been and who you are.
This project is created using CNC (computer numerical control) technology, specifically laser machine. Etched Glass images of places, precious objects and natural surroundings are presented in a illuminated light box. Mirror are used to multiply imagery and create layers of information where you not only see two, but your own reflection in the mirror making you part of it and allowing your own intake of what the image means to you personally.

Example of Box with image
This was my first almost final version of my box, with light inside of it and hanged on the wall. The image is branch and represents different roads in life and directions life puts us thru.I really like the look and depth inside of the box when you look in. The light was filtered with a light red that gives it a nice touch and illuminated my box.
12 Boxes Finished
Finally after hours of work all 12 Boxes are finished. It has been weeks of building from scratch these boxes and I am finally done. Started out with pieces of wood, cut them out into the size i needed, nailed them down, sanded the rough edges, filled in the holes with epoxy putty, sanded some more, painted them, glued on the back mirror, made the black frames for the inside and the outside, attached the hangers. Hours of hard work put into them was worth It and I am really satisfied with the results. I think the final version of my box it much better them my first draft mostly in quality and look of the box.
