My main concept for my project is to explore the dynamic juxtaposition in life. Life is full of layers, Life & Death, Destruction & Creation, Old & New, etc. Life is a journey and the wonderful thing is that while you are on the journey, sometimes you are unaware of where the path is leading us, it could be good, it could be bad, there are always discoveries ahead.
Why a light box?
Each situation in life, good or bad is kept in our memories and whether we like it or not, it always teaches us something and makes us who we are. A light box as it's name says, is a small box with light inside of it. I believe it is a great medium to use to represent these layers of life we go thru. Each moment marks our lives and determines who we are, these boxes will be illuminated with a light and each one will have a saying and situations of life. I have been thinking of using different color light bulbs to represent bad things, and bright lights to represent joy, happiness and good moments in life.
Juxtaposition: Is the placement of two things next to each other.
For these layers of life, I would like to use the concept of juxtaposition to represent two different things from the good point of view and from the bad points of view.
I plan to make different art pieces using CNC (computer numerical control) technology specifically laser cutting machine. Using digital images of memories that reflect situations in my life. Then put these images in between two pieces of glass and make the light box where a bright light will illuminate the entire art piece. Each one will be unique and have a specific message to transmit .
